Monday...28 February 2011

Belinda's birthday.
Ok, still on the island, survived the super bikes weekend.
Seriously, we are on the opposite side of the island to the racing track and even from here it sounded like a swarm of angry bees. Just one long continuous buzzz!!
Nearer to us was the influx of fans who book out all available accommodation on the island for the race meeting.
As they prepared to depart for the track each day they would fire up their motorbikes and leave them sit idling while they sorted themselves for the day and finally took off with much revving of engines.
Smelly and noisy.
They also partied a bit!!!
And we had the constant drone of helicopters and ultra lights buzzing noisily overhead. Some of those ultra lights should be booked for noise pollution. I found myself wondering what enjoyment there was in being up in the air like a bird accommpanied by so much noise.
Today that sound has been replaced by the bird calls. Peace and serenity returns.
The bathroom reno is finally finished and Keith is on his way to the island to spend a couple of days with our friends and to pick me up for the return journey to Horsham.
While the weather has not been very kind, I will be sad to leave here as it is such a relaxing place and my friends are wonderful hosts.
On a positive note my brother was transfered from the Royal Melbourne Hospital back to his local hospital last week and is in rehabilitation following his stroke. Keep up the hard work BB.

Friday...25 February 2011

Still on the Island. Yesterday we went to a Chocolate Factory for lunch!!! Yum. Best hot chocolate ever. More lazy Island life today. Host got up early and took photos of the sunrise. I was not helping, I had more important things to do, like making giant ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ's.
Spent the morning reading a book, lunch is being prepared, sun is shining, birdies are singing, somewhere around me is the sound of workman using power tools, all that is needed is a gun to dispose of the pesky workmen and their noisy tools and life would be perfect.
Super bikes racing at the Phillip Island circuit this weekend so we are also being serenaded by the hum of motorbikes as the fans slowly troll the streets showing off to each other and the permanent townies. They know tourism keeps their town going but the noise must get them down a bit. Still only a couple of days and it is over and the serenity returns.

Tuesday, 22 February 2011

Spent yesterday doing a spot of cold weather shopping in Wonthaggi.
As someone said, who would go anywhere in Victoria in Summer without cold weather clothes? The answer is of course, ME!
Well I thought I was going to a nice little ISLAND and of course they all have lovely little resorts with mobs of people running around with not a lot on and playing beach volleyball or some such young type activities.
So all I packed was 3/4 pants and t-shirts. One lives and learns!!!!!!!
Nice long walk today and some washing, rest of the day is lazy time.

Sunday, 20 February 2011

So have not been logging in for a while.
On the 7th February my big brother had a small trucking accident and while sorting that out on the side of the road with the police, he had a stroke! He is still alive and in hospital and will be for quite some time as it will take long term rehab to get him moving again if that is possible.
Life in Horsham altered pace with the kids going back to school and the daughter going back to work after her break.
We were considering moving to Bendigo but have been side tracked by a request to help with bathroom renovations in Horsham. This translates to stripping the room back to the bare shell and totally rebuilding it including replacing the floor boards. Pictures to follow.......one day!
While that is happening I have jumped on a train and went up to Melbourne to visit the sick brother and now I am on Phillip Island visiting with my friends who have a permanent caravan at a beachside park in Cowes.
Its a tough life, but someone has to do it......

Sunday...6 February 2011

Happy Birthday Stephanie......
With the cool change arriving, with the rain and thunder and wind, I slept nicely.
Got up just in time to shower before lunch.
The boys went fishing again! Must have been hard work!!!!

Been fishing!
They insist they caught heaps of fish, but once again, no evidence. Just as well we were not relying on them to bring home the tea.
They say they caught carp, redfin and catfish. No keepers, all undersized. Much discussion on sizing with the word sardine getting a regular mention.
The weary fishermen then wandered into the lounge to watch the cricket........but spent the time checking for holes in their eyelids!
Bit brrrrrrrrrrrr, who forgot to adjust the thermostat????????
Can't win, either too hot or freezing cold like today, must be time we moved to Sydney!! They tell me it is warm there, just need floaties to get there.

Saturday...5 February 2011

From one extreme to another, cold wet and miserable today.
Took one look at the day and said to hell with it and went back to bed!
Surfaced again for lunch.
By request went into town and got a few beads and made a pearl bracelet and a black tubing single bead necklace for the daughter. She says she is happy with the end results.
While we were shopping and beading the boys of the house went fishing. They claim to have caught lots and lots of fish, all undersized or carp, so no evidence to speak of in that department, however they did bring home a good catch of yabbies which were duly put into a nice hot bath and were last seen being peeled and prepared for consumption.  Well done lads.

Friday...4 February 2011

90% humidity today....ewwwwwwwwww.
Overcast and thundery showers, more to follow they say. In fact there is a suggestion I need to find the floaties again!!
Come on you lot, do you ever do anything else except kill mozzies and mop up after rain events? Cannot say I am overly interested in staying in the east on a permanent basis with bucketing rain one day and steamy weather the next. Might as well move to Darwin during the wet as live here.
Had plans to move during next week but this will be highly dependant on the weather and state of the state and its roads by then.
Spent the day at the sewing machine and feel a measure of satisfaction of a job well done, with a little thought and some black felt and a few stitches I have turned daylight into shadow, thus making a nanny nap possible.
That is all I have......

Thursday...3 February 2011

Another night of sleeping like a log, very grateful for bed when off visiting but seriously nothing like your own bed no matter where it may be at whatever time of life you are in. Having been treated for a broken/twisted/snagged nerve/arthritis induced  back, I find myself constantly on the watch for anything that may offend my back. One twitch and I am neurotically examining myself and my surrounds for cause and effect scenarios. I do not want to go through that amount of pain again and certainly do not want to have to have that operation again, even if it comes with inbuilt excuses for never ever doing housework again!!!
Up early to watch the news reports on poor old Qld cyclone problems. I do feel for them, one NEVER forgets that particular sound of a jet engine above the house which never arrives but never departs properly either. Many of them will remember that sound for a long long time. And why is it that without fail cyclones always arrive in the middle of the night, making the entire experience ten times worse for the not being able to see what is causing all the rattlling, crashing and banging in the dark around you as you try to be brave for the kids when in actual fact you are in mortal terror for them and yourself of ever seeing daylight again in this life.
My heart goes out to them, the rebuilding will happen eventually, but the sounds will stay in their memories forever.
Spent the day cooking up a storm of my own. Five trays of sausage rolls and a tray of vanilla slice safely in the fridge. This will  help with filling lunch boxes for a day or two I feel. School starts tomorrow in Vic.
Tomorrow the sewing machine is coming out to do a few running repairs both for the daughter and myself. Himself has been making himself useful in all manner of ways at the son-in-laws workplace. Keeps him out of harms way at home... I can be a bit slap happy with a rolling pin!!!!!!

Wednesday... 2 February 2011

New windscreen installed in the daughters car. Not borrowing that again, don't think I can afford any more repairs. They are bloody expensive when there is no windscreens included in the insurance policy!!
Still it was nice of them to loan it to me.
Extremely hot today, had water running down my back for most of the day, and that was in air conditioning...
The grandsons went fishing but no one has waved anything under my nose with a request to cook it so I guess they did not have much luck. Seems they were only getting catfish and carp. Maybe they will have better luck tomorrow. I think the fish would be trying to find a patch of river without debris and with clean water, not grabbing at the worms on hooks, but maybe they are hungry with every thing being washed down stream during the floods.
Floods are slowly evaporating, the stench comes and goes depending on the direction of the winds. The mozzies are still active but have had their wings clipped with copious amounts of deterrant being sprayed on their breeding grounds. We are hearing stories of people having to take their dogs etc to the vet for treatment  because of mosquito bites. Seems they like all blood including human and animal blood.
Daughter back to work tomorrow, kids back to school Friday. Strange to have school go back on a Friday, they get one day then take a break for the weekend. No idea what that is about. More than likely the Ed Dept has no idea why they did it either!!!!

Tuesday...1 February 2011

Back in Horsham. Enough of the gadding about.
Very hot night last night, was awake again by 5am. Got up for a couple of hours then managed to sleep again for another two hours before giving up and getting up properly for the day.
Went over to Kyabram to the cemetary to pay my respects then had a quick cuppa with my sisters friend who used to live in Perth but has relocated to Victoria recently to be closer to her children and other family. Then it was back to Undera to pack and have an early lunch and off I went on the long drive back to Horsham. Four and a half hours and by golly it was a hot drive. Quite strong winds and bits of trees blowing all over the road. Kept me on my toes.
So pleased to have seen the family but it is nice also to be back in my own little caravan.
Came home loaded down with Auntys home made tomato relish for her FBIL (favourite brother in law) and an extra jar for Kim as a thank you for lending me the car to visit her.
Have also come home with a perfect 'bullet hole' in the windscreen compliments of a stone thrown up by a big B Double!!!!
So I guess the next thing I will be doing is organising a new windscreen for the loaner.....bugger!
