Thursday...21 June 2012

Moving day again! Today was a long drive from Charters Towers to Mareeba. We have 'our' spot at the same caravan park as last time we stayed here. The lady who runs the park personally turned out to welcome Himself. She remembers us from last time. Now I wonder is that a good thing?
So nice to be back in the warmth.

Tuesday...19 June 2012

Spent a night in a free camp after leaving the last town and now in Charters Towers.
Great little caravan park, drive thru sites and level as a billard table.
Have been looking around the district at all the old gold mining sites.
Will move on in a day or so.

Friday...15 June 2012

Moving day.
Borroloola
After a couple of weeks soaking up the sun and the peace of Never Never land today the caravan moved to Cape Crawford.
Cape Crawford is only 150kms from Borroloola, but it is a bit more civilized.
Seems water is readily available so high on the to do list is washing the red dirt off the car and caravan before continuing back towards Barkly Homestead and heading on into Qld.
The current plan is to head to Mareeba in far north Qld and park up in the sun for a week or maybe a month until things begin warming up down south and then we will head that way following the warmth.
Our bones and souls really yearn for the warmth of the sun.
Mind you a roaring log fire comes close in satisfaction levels!
It was my mate Joe's birthday today. Joe was part of the the Rocklea Palms crew in Paraburdoo.
Happy birthday Joe.

Happy Birthday Jessie

Quiet day in camp today soaking up the sun. Pleasant 30C.
Phone reception is hit and miss. When you want to make a call you have to wait until just the right time of day when the satellite is passing overhead and then you stand on a big rock near the pub. The locals call it Telstra Rock! Its the only place you can get mobile reception. Crazy. More when there is something to tell and the rock is free......

Happy Birthday Ashley

Himself went out fishing today on a charter.
They went 35kms up the Mcarthur River to the sea. They went out at 7.30 and came back at 5pm. Big day out.
He has caught himself enough to eat fish for a week.
He has Blue Nose Salmon, Snapper, Flathead and they got lots of Catfish too which were cut loose.
On the way back up the river they played spot the lizard.
The weather was warm, the sun was shining and the crocodiles were sunning themselves on the river bank. He says they saw 5 but of course there was probably more they missed.
All good sizes of around 3-4 metres.

Hmmm I did not hear that word Barramundi. Maybe next time.

Friday...1 June 2012

Spent a couple of days in Alice Springs just looking around. Himself went out and about and found John Flynn's grave and the old Alice township. He also saw the Devils Marbles.

Alice sure is an interesting place.
From Alice it was on to Tennant Creek. Mining area so a mine tour was on the agenda. We find it very interesting to look at mines!!!
Leaving Tennant Creek the journey continued on to Threeways and turned toward the Queensland border. At Barkly Homestead you turn off to head up north towards the Gulf country again.
Made it as far as Cape Crawford yesterday, near Borroloola which is the destination today as it is talked about all over Australia as THE best fishing spot for barramundi. Be interesting to see if it is true.
